Preschool Update: June 8-12, 2020

Hello Families,
This is our last week of virtual learning. The last day of school and virtual learning in Prince William County Schools is this Friday, June 12. I will be in contact with you about your child's placement next year if your child with be moving to a new school or teacher.

Our Preschool team has created home activities based on the Book, "Hello Ocean."  Please find the Weekly Schedule along with other at home activities and resources under the "Files and Documents" tab to the left of this message. If you have any concerns or question, please email me at rogersel@pwcs.eduMy office hours will be on Thursdays from 2:00-3:00 PM but you can email me any time during the week.

** Also, the following is a list of some general suggestions to help continue developing your child’s communication skills at home.

  • Play with your child everyday: Your child learns language skills through play and experiences. Be face-to-face with your child and talk about what your child is looking at or playing with using simple language. Use their favorite toys in your home such as cars, trucks, blocks, and farms animals.
  • Have your child imitate simple single words or short phrases that you use during play time.
  • Add words to your child’s language. If your child only uses single words, you can model 2-word phrases. For example, if you child requests a toy car by saying “car,” you can say “more cars," and practice using this phrase.
  • Limit the amount of television, or playing on phones or tablets to no more than one hour per day. Your child learns best by talking with, spending time and playing with you!
