Kilby News 06.19.20

Dear Kilby Families,

We appreciate your support as we quickly transitioned to our virtual schoolhouse for the remainder of the school year. Although there were many challenges for all of us, you met those challenges with patience and an enduring commitment to student learning. We are so proud to work in a community that understands the importance of having a strong relationship between home and school! At this time, school is expected to begin--on time and in-person--on August 25th. We truly look forward to welcoming the children back into the building. We will continue to update you as we receive information regarding the opening of school. You are encouraged to visit the PWCS webpage for more information. There are several summer learning opportunities for your child, and even one for you; see details below.

Meals To-Go

PWCS will continue to prepare and serve to-go meals throughout the summer at Fred Lynn Middle School, Monday through Friday, 9-11A.M. Meals will continue to be distributed using appropriate social distancing and minimal personal contact. All meals are free of charge to students age 18 and younger. For information on additional locations, please click this link: PWCS Nutrition.

Kindergarten Registration

Online Kindergarten registration is open now. Children who are 5 years old on or before September 30, 2020, must attend school. More information: PWCS Kindergarten Registration Information Please contact Marge Via at 703.982.0756 or VIAMR@pwcs.edu.

Crisis Counseling Program

To respond to the behavioral health impacts of COVID-19, a new warm line will support those struggling with trauma, grief and distress cause by COVID-19

The warm line number and hours have been established:

(877) 349-6428 Toll Free

9:00 A.M. - 9:00 P.M. Monday - Friday

5:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M. Saturday and Sunday

The primary objective of establishing a statewide warm line is for emotional support, active listening and referrals for Virginians who find it difficult to cope with the impacts of COVID-19. Unlike services such as 9-1-1 that are reserved for emergencies, a warm line provides someone experiencing behavioral health issues with an easy way to discuss daily struggles.

Virginia P-EBT

The Commonwealth of Virginia is mailing out grocery debit card to families with children who receive free or reduced-price meals through PWCS. It is a white, plastic card (similar to a credit card) with black lettering: “Virginia P-EBT.” Please do not throw away any mail that could be your P-EBT card. If you believe there are eligible students in your household, but you do not

receive P-EBT by the middle of June, call (804) 726-7000. For more information please click this link: https://www.dss.virginia.gov/benefit/pebt.cgi

Report Cards and Parent Vue

Report cards were emailed to parents on Friday, June 12. Report Cards will be available in ParentVue starting June 22nd. Please note there are no grades in 4th quarter because new learning and grading stopped March 13th which was 3rd quarter. Students’ grades from 1st, 2nd and 3rd quarter were averaged to get the final grade. Please reply to this email if you did not receive an email of your child’s final report card.

Kilby Laptops and Kindles

Students are able to continue to use Kilby laptops and Kindles over the summer. We are hoping all Kilby students register for virtual summer school! Please use this link for more information on the school division’s summer program: PWCS Summer School Program. If you are moving, please email Marge Via, VIAMR@PWCS.EDU, and we will set up a time for you to return the device before you go!

Summer Enrichment Canvas Course

Kilby teachers and staff will be offering an optional enrichment course in Canvas this summer (FREE). Canvas is a new learning platform that will be used in the fall across Prince William County Schools. This optional course will be a time for interested students and parents to learn about Canvas and have access to NearPods, Virtual Field Trips and other learning opportunities. If you are interested, please fill out this form to sign up: https://bit.ly/3eEe6Sg

You will need to fill out Student First and Last name and grade level; all other information is optional.

Tiger21’s Online Summer Camp is open for registration
